The Colors of 2018

As we look ahead to 2018, it seems that our world will continue to grow more complicated and more connected. Perhaps it’s not surprising then that the colors that will fill our homes in this coming year are in many ways in direct opposition to that. According to the recently released Sherwin Williams Colormix Forecast for 2018, the hues in our homes this year are all about simplifying, getting back to basics, and reestablishing connections with nature and each other – with just a bit of high-tech accents thrown in for fun! Here’s how our designers see these shades playing out in our décor this year:

Sherwin Williams has selected Oceanside as its color of the year – a decadent combination of a rich blue and jewel-toned green. This collision of two favorite colors is right at home in any setting – from modern or glam to rustic outdoors. You can go all out and use this deep and mysterious shade on your walls or in large pieces like sofas or cabinets. We love it in dynamic pieces like this Barclay Sectional from Lexington upholstery. It’s clean lines and cool splash of color make it the center of attention in any home.

More subtle shades of blue will be visible as well. We love the contrast of natural sky blue colors and a bit of texture with the dramatic modern lines and metal curves of the Bernhardt Callie Chair.

Bright pops of dynamic color are going to be everywhere is 2018 in what Sherwin Williams calls an optimistic remapping of our sense of community. This ethnic vibrancy crops up in our homes in vibrant reds and yellows and shades of pink and burgundy. We love the dramatic color of this snug sectional by Drexel to create impact in a space.

Embracing high-tech colors doesn’t mean that you need to have an ultra-contemporary interior. We love adding a pop of bright accent color to the more traditional and feminine elements of the Turnbridge Chair from Century.

In a connected and frenetic world, there’s still something so comforting about the calmness of gray. This staple isn’t going away anytime soon, as more furnishings are available in far more than 50 shades of this new classic. Few places are better to show off the relaxing power of this hue than the bedroom. One of our favorites is the sophisticated Tufted Upholstered Bed from the Oyster Bay Collection by Lexington, which adds a tailored touch.

No matter which colors spark your passion in 2018, sprinkle them into your current décor with bold accents or go all in with dramatic, large-scale pieces to update your home’s style and your outlook for the new year.
